On October 4, 2024, the 3rd Economic Cooperation Organization Think- Tank Forum entitled “Next Generation Economics: Challenges and Perspectives” was held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The forum was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Economic Research Scientific Institute of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan’s chairmanship in the “COP29”-UN Climate Change Conference.
The organizers of the International Forum were the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Economic Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan together with the Institute for Economic Development and Social Research (Turkey).
The agenda of the forum included discussions of the process of development of economic relations of the ECO countries, analysis of existing problems and challenges, consideration of prospects and further development of economic cooperation of the ECO countries.
The event was attended by heads and experts of «think tanks» and representatives of political and diplomatic circles of the ECO member countries.
Representative from Tajikistan Oraz Murtazozoda, First Deputy Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, took part in the forum.
Oraz Murtazozoda at the first panel session “Green Growth: Energy, Infrastructure and National Strategies” hade a speech on the topic “Tajikistan: Goals and Achievements on the Path to Becoming a Green Country”.
During the speech, Oraz Murtazozoda committed that “in recent years, the idea of a “green” economy has become a topic of negotiation not only among economic experts, but is also discussed at forums, especially at the meetings of heads of states.”
It was noted that «…the goal of developing a green economy is to adapt to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, efficient use of resources, and attract investment and modern technologies.»
Continuing the speech, also been remarked that «on September 30, 2022, the «Strategy for the Development of a Green Economy in Tajikistan for 2023-2037» was adopted. The funding for this strategy is 21.6 billion somoni. It deals with regulatory reforms, optimizing the use of resources, attracting investment, introducing modern technologies and a method of global cooperation in the field of a green economy, as well as doubling the production of renewable energy by 2050. If these measures are implemented, by 2032, electricity production in Tajikistan will be entirely from renewable sources, that is, 100% will be provided by «green energy» (currently 98%). At the same time, according to the International Conference, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced to a minimum by 2037. Thus, with the development of the “green economy”, Tajikistan will become a truly “green country” in 2037.”
In conclusion, Oraz Murtazozoda noted that “Tajikistan plans to double its efforts to produce green energy due to economic reforms laid out in the National Development Strategy until 2030.”
