On December 4, 2024, the Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Khayridin Usmonzoda, met with a delegation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland led by Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan Alex Cameron.
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Catherine Smithton, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Tajikistan, Michael Thomas, Senior Principal Research Analyst in Afghanistan, Alice Draper, Head of the Counter-Terrorism Group in Afghanistan, and Henrietta Alexander, Regional Consultant for Afghanistan and Central Asia.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the CSR, Khayriddin Usmonzoda, welcomed the guests and congratulated Mrs. Catherine Smithton on the occasion of assuming the post of Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on important international issues, regional security and bilateral ties, and the efforts of the two countries to finding a way of reconciliation peacefully resolve the Afghan crisis and restore its socio-economic infrastructure.
The parties discussed issues of further enhancing bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom. In particular, Usmonzoda Khayridin noted the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain on such important issues as «green energy», the implementation of the «green economy» strategy and the diversification of labor migration.
The meeting was held in the spirit of sincerity, mutual understanding and constructive dialogue.
