On July 9, extraordinary presidential election was held in the Republic of Uzbekistan. This event was held on the basis of the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of the country, which, according to the improvement and introduction of other amendments, as well as articles related to the President’s term, power and responsibilities, were also changed. Taking into account this situation, the order of the head of state of Uzbekistan on the holding of extraordinary presidential election was issued in May. The last presidential election was held in 2021. According to the amendments to the Constitution, the term of the president’s leadership will be extended from 5 to 7 years.
With the start of the election campaign, from the five active political parties four of them nominated their candidates for the post of the country’s highest governing body, and the «Revival of Uzbekistan» party, along with the ruling party, supported the current president’s candidacy.
Observers and reporters from Tajikistan are participating in the election. In particular, at the invitation of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan, the Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Kh. Usmonzoda participated. He observed the election process in Tashkent city, and based on his impressions of the election process, conducted interviews with the media based in Uzbekistan.
