Recent events in Afghanistan continue to have a negative effect on the political and military situation in the neighboring countries, especially in the Central Asian region. The withdrawal of international coalition troops and the subsequent change of government have considerably aggravated the security situation both in Afghanistan itself and in the neighboring states.
The Republic of Tajikistan, as a border state with a long border with Afghanistan (1,400 km), feels the seriousness of the situation and continues to urge the international community to pay close attention to the events taking place in Afghanistan. More than 46% of ethnic Tajiks lives in neighboring Afghanistan, and that is why Tajikistan cannot remain indifferent to the situation in Afghanistan, where the rights and freedoms of Tajiks and other ethnic minorities are infringed.
In this In this regard, the Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, after his meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, expressed the following position: «Tajiks and other ethnic groups should occupy a worthy place in an inclusive government. This is the only way to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan».
Today, the electronic and print media are widely and actively discussing the topic of a potential invasion of international terrorist groups from the territory of Afghanistan, as well as the increase in illegal migration, religious extremism, drug trafficking and other cross-border challenges and threats to the security of the states of the region. This prospect is already prompting the adoption of the most decisive measures to prevent negative developments.
In support of the above, one can give an example of recent events on the Afghan-Turkmen border. According to a number of local media outlets, including the Turkmen news portal Chronicle of Turkmenistan, the country became the third state to be attacked by Afghanistan.
The current military and political situation in Afghanistan should prompt the entire international community to take urgent measures to prevent further destabilization and escalation of the situation in this long-suffering land.
Afghanistan’s neighbors currently faced a number of serious risks, challenges and threats in ensuring their national security. In particular, let us mention just the most significant of them: international terrorism, drug trafficking, and an increase in cross-border crime.
The situation is aggravated, in our opinion, first of all, due to the lack of compromise and different visions of key external actors involved in the Afghan process, who are in uncompromising contradiction. Nevertheless, its effective solution, in our opinion, is possible only in close coordination of the actions of all interested parties.
At the same time, it should be emphasized that the very further forecasting of the process of the military-political situation in Afghanistan is extremely difficult. This is due to the ambiguity of the further transformation of the designated internal political, ethno-social and other vital processes in Afghanistan. An additional complication is the lack of constant monitoring of these processes.
The Republic of Tajikistan has repeatedly voiced its position on the Afghan crisis from the highest and most authoritative international tribunes. Its way out is exclusively on a peaceful plane, this crisis, which has been going on for more than 40 years, has no military solution of its own, it can be resolved only through peaceful negotiations.
In the current situation, as noted in the address of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, to the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan, we must promote peaceful inter-Afghan dialogue and focus on providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
