MEETING BETWEEN THE DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER FOR STRATEGIC RESEARCH UNDER THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN AND THE HEAD OF THE REGIONAL OFFICE OF IWMI
On May 1, 2025, Khairiddin Usmonzoda, Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, met with Barbara Janusz-Pawletta, Head of the Regional Office of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Central Asia. The meeting focused on pressing climate change issues, including sustainable water resource management and the protection of glaciers in the Central Asian region. Special attention was given to cooperation among Central Asian countries within global initiatives aimed at preserving water resources and minimizing the impact of climate change on regional ecosystems.
Director Usmonzoda emphasized the importance of integrating scientific research with practical measures to effectively address water scarcity and ecosystem degradation. He also highlighted the need to strengthen interregional cooperation to ensure long-term environmental sustainability.
In turn, Barbara Janusz-Pawletta noted the significance of collaboration between Central Asia and international partners in tackling sustainable water management challenges.
Both sides expressed interest in further enhancing cooperation and implementing joint projects in the fields of ecology and water resources, with an emphasis on evidence-based approaches to addressing regional challenges.
