THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ENSURING NATIONAL SECURITY

“Digital technologies and artificial intelligence are a suitable foundation for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Emomali Rahmon

In the 21st century, rapid advances in science and technology have led to progress in many areas, including ensuring stability and progress in society. However, despite all these achievements, humanity still faces problems that it is unable to solve, especially when it comes to solving global problems. Currently, most developed countries rely on artificial intelligence to address some of these issues, as it plays an important role in ensuring development and stability in global and regional politics. This technology contributes to effective management, prevention, and response to global threats in the areas of security, digitalization of the economy, and sustainable development.

The main task of artificial intelligence was initially aimed at solving other problems, but as a result of its extremely rapid development, many countries around the world are now using artificial intelligence in various social, economic, political, security, and other areas, where they have also achieved good results.

It is worth noting that in the process of globalization, ensuring one of the country’s vital interests—national security—has become difficult, since even terrorist and extremist groups use any means and methods, especially modern technologies, to achieve their selfish goals. This has led to many countries finding themselves in a difficult position. To ensure national security and combat terrorist and extremist groups that use modern equipment and technology, artificial intelligence can be one of the best tools for solving these problems.

Managing modern threats in the field of security using artificial intelligence technology has become one of the strategic directions in global and regional politics. Artificial intelligence is the behavior of human intelligence in a programmable and automated form, allowing for more efficient use of resources and constant monitoring of emerging threats.

In our opinion, the reasons for using artificial intelligence to ensure national security and combat terrorist and extremist groups can be formulated as follows:

– first, fast data processing: Artificial intelligence systems can analyze large data sets faster than analysts and respond more quickly to emerging threats.

Data processing is one of the most important aspects of information and analytical activities, which traditionally requires a lot of time and resources. With the help of artificial intelligence, this process becomes significantly more efficient and faster. Artificial intelligence technologies enable the analysis of large volumes of data in a short period of time, extracting and presenting only the important and necessary information. This capability is particularly significant not only for government and security agencies, but also for all sectors of the socio-economic sphere.

– second, ensuring information security: Artificial intelligence is capable of protecting against cyber threats, as well as promptly detecting and preventing non-standard factors aimed at disrupting the operation of technological systems.

Cyberattacks carried out by cybercriminal groups, terrorist organizations, and even interested states are becoming increasingly sophisticated and employing increasingly subtle technical methods each day. In just the last few years, the number of recorded attacks worldwide has increased tenfold. This trend indicates that cyber threats have evolved from a technical threat into a strategic problem that directly affects national security and social stability.

With the rapid development of the digital economy, society and the state are becoming increasingly dependent on information technology. However, this same dependence, if not supported by modern protective measures, becomes a serious weakness. In such a situation, increasing digital protection capabilities with the help of artificial intelligence is no longer an option, but a vital necessity.

– thirdly, facial recognition: Facial recognition systems operating on the basis of artificial intelligence identify criminals, terrorists, and extremists by their faces, movements, and gestures, helping law enforcement agencies to find and arrest them.

The use of facial recognition systems based on advanced artificial intelligence algorithms has become one of the most modern and strategically important tools in the fight against crime, terrorist groups, and extremists. Facial recognition technologies enable the instant identification and neutralization of wanted individuals in public places and at critical state infrastructure facilities.

Recent experience shows that such systems play a key role in preventing terrorist acts and identifying international criminals. For example, the People’s Republic of China has installed a large network of AI-powered cameras that allow real-time tracking of suspicious individuals. This experience has significantly improved public safety and reduced the number of serious crimes.

For the Republic of Tajikistan, considering the current threats to security and the need to protect social stability, the development and implementation of such systems has strategic importance. It can be effective not only in combating organized crime and terrorism, but also play an important role in border control, ensuring the security of mass events, and protecting critical state infrastructure.

From the above mentioned, it can be concluded that artificial intelligence has become an integral part of sustainable development of states and ensuring national security. In a situation where the world is facing new threats – from cyber-attacks to international terrorism – the effective use of these technologies has strategic importance for the Republic of Tajikistan. The initiatives of the Leader of the nation, his Excellency Emomali Rahmon, aimed at introducing modern technologies and supporting international initiatives on the role of artificial intelligence in socio-economic development, create new opportunities for ensuring the security and sustainable development of the country. Thus, the rational use of artificial intelligence can make a significant contribution to strengthening national stability and protecting the strategic interests of the Republic of Tajikistan.
